Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 September 2026 · Camphy Private Limited, India

This policy explains what Camphy Private Limited ("Camphy", "we", "us") collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what the product needs and nothing more, we never store your exact location, and we do not sell your personal information.

1. Information we collect

Account information from your sign-in provider: your name, email address and profile picture. Profile information you choose to add: a handle, your institute, short bio, interests, a discovery radius, and optionally your gender. Content you create: posts, images you attach, comments, group messages, meetup details, reports and blocks. If you choose to use ALIGN+, the messages you send in that chat and the Signature Code generated from them - see section 3a. Technical information needed to run the service securely, such as essential session cookies. An approximate position, derived either from your institute or your device - see the next section.

2. Location - exactly how we handle it

Camphy needs an approximate position to show you relevant nearby posts. You choose how: pin your location to your institute's campus, which needs no device permission and never changes as you move around, or share your live location, refreshed automatically each time you open the app. Either way, your position is rounded to a grid of roughly 100 metres before it is stored - your exact coordinates are never written to our systems. Other members never see coordinates or a distance in metres; they only ever see a range such as "Nearby" or "Within 2 km". Live location is read only while you are actively using the app. Camphy does no background tracking, and you can switch between campus and live location, or change your institute, at any time in Settings.

3. AI features and your text

If you use the optional "Refine with AI" writing aid, the text you typed is sent to our AI service providers to generate a suggestion, which you can accept, edit or discard. We do not send your name, contact details or location with that request, and we do not use your content to train AI models. You can always write your post without AI.

3a. ALIGN+ conversations, AI processing and retention

ALIGN+ is optional. If you use it, you have a short chat with our AI companion and we turn that conversation into a "Signature Code" - a structured summary of your interests and how you like to connect - which is then used to suggest compatible members near you. How the processing works: your messages are sent to Amazon Bedrock, running Anthropic's Claude Haiku model, in the Asia-Pacific (Mumbai) region under our AWS agreement. The processing is ephemeral - the model provider does not retain your messages after generating a response, and your conversations are not used to train any AI model. We do not send your name, email, handle or coordinates with these requests. How long we keep it: the raw conversation transcript is stored only so you can resume the chat and so we can build your Signature Code from it. Transcripts are automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after they are written, by a scheduled job that runs continuously - this is a hard purge, not archiving. Your Signature Code itself is kept while your account is active, and is replaced each time you retake the chat. Who can see it: nobody else. Your raw ALIGN+ conversation is never shown to another member and is never shared with any third party for advertising, profiling or any other purpose. Other members only ever see the derived, non-identifying result - a pseudonym such as "frosty-lynx-94723", a compatibility percentage, shared interests, and a rough distance range. Your real name, photo and handle become visible to someone only once you both connect and are in a chat together. ALIGN+ is not a diagnostic, clinical or counselling tool, produces no medical or psychological assessment, and must not be relied on as one. It may offer general, non-clinical wellness suggestions (like taking a break or reaching out to a friend) when you describe everyday stress, but never medical advice, never a diagnosis, and never anything if you mention self-harm - that always redirects to real support instead. See our Safety Guidelines for helplines staffed by trained people.

4. How we use your information

To operate the product: showing relevant posts to people nearby, forming groups when people connect, delivering messages, and displaying the profile details you chose to share. To keep Camphy safe: handling reports and blocks, enforcing our terms, and preventing abuse. To communicate with you about your account. We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising.

5. When we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run Camphy under our instructions - cloud hosting and storage, the AI providers described above, and your chosen sign-in provider - and where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect the safety of members or the public. Content you publish (posts, comments) is visible to other members by design; group messages are visible to that group's members.

6. Cookies

Camphy uses a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and to secure your session. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics cookies. Details are in the Cookie Policy.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Posts expire on the schedule you set when publishing (from one hour up to three months) and stop being shown once expired. ALIGN+ conversation transcripts are hard-deleted after 30 days - see section 3a. When your account is deleted we remove your profile information and stop displaying your content; messages you sent to a group may remain visible to that group, attributed to a deleted account, so other members' conversations stay intact. We may retain limited records where the law requires it, for example in connection with safety reports.

8. Deleting your account and your rights

You may access and correct your profile information in the app at any time. You can delete your account yourself from Settings; deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. When you delete your account we remove your profile details, your posts, your likes and comments, your ALIGN+ conversations and signature, and your notification settings and devices. Messages you have already sent remain in the group chats they were sent to, shown as from a deleted user, so that the other members' conversations stay readable. Where the law requires us to keep records - including reports of abuse and trust and safety assessments of meetups - we keep those records, with your free-text notes removed. To exercise other rights available to you under applicable Indian law, including access, correction and withdrawal of consent, write to privacy@camphy.in from your registered email, or contact our Grievance Officer named in section 14.

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to production systems is restricted, and sessions are protected with industry-standard mechanisms. No service can promise perfect security; if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

10. Where your data is stored

Camphy is operated from India and data is stored with our cloud infrastructure provider, primarily in the Asia-Pacific (Mumbai) region.

11. Children

Camphy is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete such accounts when we become aware of them.

12. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as the product evolves and will give notice inside the product for material changes. The date at the top reflects the latest revision.

13. Contact and grievances

For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@camphy.in. Grievances under applicable Indian law can be addressed to grievance@camphy.in or to the Grievance Officer named below.
